Product Review: Milk Makeup Kush MascaraProduct review of Milk Makeups’s latest, probably most anticipated (as of this writing) new product release...Lately in the world of beauty, perhaps nothing has been more attention grabbing recently than hearing about a mascara that uses cannabis oil. “Mascara that gets you high?” first comes to my mind and I’m sure some would even bat an eye to hearing such a thing. Marketing gimmick or not, I want to not only want to see if it truly provided “high volume”, but to also see what all the fuss is about with regards to using cannabis oil in beauty products.Disclosure: I received these products from Milk Makeup through Influenster in exchange for my honest review. I was not given any money to do this review. I enjoy doing product reviews to share my own experiences with the product and hope someone finds it useful. I do not work for Milk Makeup. I mostly know them for their cute (yet very convenient) stick packaging of a lot of their makeup and skincare products. It is also worth noting that they are a cruelty-Free, 100% vegan makeup brand. "Good ingredient. Epic payoff” is what they say. They are also paraben-free, sulfate-free, formaldehyde-free, mineral oil-free, and talc-free. In a way, they basically make vegan makeup a trending thing. Product Description/Claims: According to Milk Makeup’s website, Kush High Volume Mascara uses "conditioning hemp-derived, CBD-infused cannabis oil that fuses heart-shaped fibers to lashes for thickness without the fallout.” Like its name, the mascara formula is supposed to give you high volume, while still managing to hydrate your lashes (they won’t dry you out). I think just the fact that this incorporates any type of oil (let alone cannabis oil), I already expected the product to be hydrating. How To Use: You probably do not need instructions on how to use mascara, but the best way to apply mascara is to wiggle it through your lashes. Also while I didn't have time to test the mascara with a mascara primer/base, since the mascara isn't waterproof, definitely use a primer/base before it as it should cut down on any smudges you might get. Don't wait for the mascara to dry in-between coats. [back up] What is CBD Oil in Mascara?CBD stands for cannabinoid which is derived from the cannabis plant. It is worth nothing that the CBD used in the Kush mascara is from hemp (not marijuana/weed). It is also non-psychoactive (won't make you high).Notable Ingredients: As a makeup product, they don't typically have any notable ingredients as they tend to just be things to temporarily enhance our looks such as blush, lipstick, etc. However there are some ingredients in this mascara that back up its claims to hydrate/condition your lashes.
Water/Aqua/Eau, Paraffin, Glyceryl Stearate, Synthetic Beeswax, Stearic Acid, Acacia Senegal Gum, Butylene Glycol, Palmitic Acid, Polybutene, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Ozokerite, Aminomethyl Propanol, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Stearyl Stearate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Nylon-6, Papaver Somniferum Seed Oil, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Dipteryx Odorata Seed Extract, Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter, Cera carnauba/copernica cerifera (carnuaba) wax/cire de carnauba, Silica, Tropolone, Aframomum Melegueta Seed Extract, Helichrysum Italicum Extract, Iron Oxide/CI 77499 Packaging: The Kush mascara comes in a big metal tube that looks very much like brushed steel. It looks very high-end, even a bit industrial-looking. The brush itself is very big and wide (usually typical of volumizing mascara). I don't comment too much about the packaging of mascara, but this is one of the nicest ones I've seen. [back up] Milk Makeup Kush High Volume MascaraPerformance:This is probably the best volumizing mascara that I've tried. However, because my lashes (both top and bottom) are already longish, the mascara starts to smudge around the bottom of my lids after constantly blinking. Sometimes when I look at myself in the mirror, my mascara's started to run like I've been crying or something... Pros:
This Mascara is Lit!Final Impressions:I'll pretty much sum up what was already previously said. If you're looking for good volume (an almost falsie-like look) - and with buildable volume, this would definitely be your pick. Though I didn't try it specifically with this mascara, I do encourage using some kind of mascara primer to improve and prolong the wear of this mascara as I personally had a bit of a smudging issue from my lower lashes (even if I skipped the lower lashes I still smudged). However, if you're looking for a more natural look, this wouldn't exactly be the mascara that I recommend (Glossier is supposed to have one that gives you a my-lashes-but-better type of look). Final Rating = 4/5 (without the use of primer) The ResultsOk so this isn't the best picture to represent how volumizing this mascara really is, but I suck at taking close up pics of my eyes. I have tried getting the boyfriend to take a picture of my eyes, but it didn't turn out right, so this was the best I could come up with prior to posting this review. If I ever have the chance to try this mascara out with a primer, for sure I'll re-take my result photo and update it here. [back up] Shop This PostMilk Makeup Kush |
